North Deep Creek Residence
A tired Queensland home opened up into calm, practical country living.
The brief
The house had charm in abundance: coloured glass, timber detailing, generous rooms and a verandah that looked straight into the landscape. What it lacked was ease. Heavy colours, closed thresholds and dated finishes made each room feel separate from the next, and the kitchen did not make the most of the home’s light or views.
The challenge
This was a renovation that needed restraint. The aim was not to erase the home’s country character, but to edit it: keep the rhythm of the old rooms, lift the surfaces, and make the daily spaces feel cleaner, brighter and more connected.
The transformation
The palette moved to warm whites, soft greens, natural timber and aged brass. The kitchen became the centre of the home, opening directly to the verandah and letting the view become part of everyday life. The original verandah was absorbed into the home as a new living room, while a fresh deck addition created space for outdoor dining. Bedrooms were simplified and softened, the bathroom was rebuilt around a freestanding bath, and the living areas were given a calmer backdrop for furniture, art and texture.

“The old house had the bones. The renovation gave it light, flow and a sense of calm without losing what made it feel like home.”Velvet Interiors, North Deep Creek Residence
