Lady Mary Terrace

A dated Gympie terrace house restored into a light, layered Queenslander retreat.

The brief

Lady Mary Terrace had the bones that make an old Queensland home worth saving: v-groove walls, high ceilings, timber detailing, French doors and verandahs that already understood the climate. The work was to lift the house out of its dated peach palette and tired finishes without stripping away its character.

The challenge

The house needed both restraint and confidence. The rooms had charm, but the surfaces, lighting and flow made them feel heavier than they needed to be. The renovation had to make daily life easier while keeping the sense that the home had been collected over time.

The transformation

The palette was simplified to warm whites, soft greys, timber, brass and gentle textiles. Floors were brought back into the story, the kitchen was rebuilt as a working centre of the home, bathrooms and bedrooms were softened, and the exterior was refreshed into a cleaner, calmer version of the original house. Furniture, art and layered textiles then gave each room the lived-in warmth that makes the renovation feel settled rather than newly staged.
